The Colchester and District Talking Newspaper is run entirely by volunteers. There are a number of roles to fill which over the years of its existance have been adequately filled by as many as 65 people.
In recent times some of those volunteers, for very good reasons, have retired from giving their support and the TN is now actively seeking people to assist.
Because we are dealing with vulnerable people it is felt necessary to carry out an application process which could involve completion of a DBS, formerly Criminal Record Bureau (CRB) check.
Anybody wanting to volunteer to help the Talking Newspaper in any way is asked to contact The Director at the above address as a starting point to the process.
Roles include:
Readers
Technicians
Preparers
Despatchers
Unpackers
Most volunteers work in teams and meet either weekly, or once a month or in some cases every week for a month followed by a month off. Each role is different and needs different skills. The ability to get to the University at Wivenhoe Park within a pre-determined time scale every time you attend is an essential feature. The TN pays expenses for either bus fares or petrol and car parking necessary to achieve this.
